We had great fun at rehearsal today. Working with such a superb script is a joy and Alan Ayckbourn manages to weave so many hilarious moves through his clever words, particularly in Act II, that the cast were in stitches.

It is so much fun ! And if the cast are enjoying it this much, we're pretty sure the audiences will love it too.

The Box Office is not open yet, but there is a way to make advance bookings — click on our Friends page.

We look forward to seeing you in Lectoure in early May !

The radio play rehearsals are fun. I'm enjoying hearing people use different voices to play multiple characters. And now we're beginning to give the radio scripts some movement by choreographing the actors to move between the two microphones to show that scenes happen in different places.

Creating the scripts for the actors to use has been interesting. There is a proper format for radio plays that's different to a normal stage play or television drama. A radio script is usually printed in large type with plenty of space between the lines, so that there's lots of white space on the page to make it easy for the actors to read.

The Dad's Army script was the television version and therefore printed in much smaller type so it had to be scaled up for easier 'live' us by the actors.

By contrast the script for A King's Speech was easy as it came in standard radio play format. I had so much help from Mark Burgess, who wrote the original script for the BBC Radio Four. Mark sent me ... by special next-day delivery! ... the exact script as used by the BBC, all ready to go in radio format. Thank you, Mark, the actors really appreciated that.

We are delighted to announce that we are staging two performances of radio plays to be held in restaurant settings in early March.

A King's Speech is a 40-minute BBC radio version of the story of King George VI preparing for his Coronation Day speech.
Mum's Army is a 30-minute radio version of an episode of Dad's Army in which Captain Mainwaring invites women to join the Home Guard.

The performances will be on Saturday 4th March at 12.00 at the Hotel de France in Maubourguet and the next day, Sunday 5th March at 12.00 at l'Auberge in Montesquiou.

The format will be A King's Speech followed by a lunch followed by Mum's Army.

We have some exciting news to be announced in the next few days.
Our first radio plays will be staged in March at two venues in the south of the Gers. The format will be a short radio drama to be performed prior to a lunch or dinner, followed by a short comedy performance of an episode of a well-loved television series.
Keep watching our upcoming events page and be ready to reserve your places as we expect to sell out very quickly.

First rehearsal

Our first rehearsal saw the entire cast don warm coats, scarves and gloves for a first read-through of Absurd Person Singular on a chilly morning at Caillavet. Things soon warmed up and by the afternoon one of the three Acts had been worked through and everyone had learned their moves.
There were moments of high hilarity, particularly when the cast had to act out a sequence of musical forfeits. It all bodes well.

Our journey begins . . .

The first of our twenty five rehearsals is tomorrow, 2nd February.
We have our play, Alan Ayckbourn's funniest.
We have our cast, a talented and much experienced bunch.
We have our venues, the lovely theatre in Lectoure and the intimate playhouse in Maubourguet.
Now all we need to do is bring Ayckbourn's hilarious observation of suburban struggles to life.

Let's break a leg!
